25th Public Speaking Speech Competition Organized by Richelieu International

On Saturday the 2nd of February 2013, two seniors took part in a public speaking speech competition organized by Richelieu International at the Royal Conservatory of Mons.

Fifteen students from schools located in the Mons region had to choose a topic among five different subjects. In the morning, completely isolated in the public library, they had to write their speeches, in which they had to develop their ideas and arguments. Then, they had to memorize their speeches.

At 2 o´clock in the afternoon, the candidates were introduced to the audience and there was then a draw to decide which candidate would start. Our students, Laetitia MAMPAKA and Martin GONTIER, chose the same topic, which was `Cooperation and partnership is the only route that offers any hope of a better future for all humanity´ (Kofi Annan).

Despite being stressed and not used to this sort of experience, our students were able to get their message across clearly and to convince the jury. Both were given a prize. Laetitia got the third prize. Congratulations to both of them!

We hope that, with this experience, students will get interested in public speaking or, at least, start being free thinkers.
